Steam controller input

It's kinda hard to explain, but when using the analog stick with the Steam controller, it registers the input like as if you were using the keyboard keys. So if I were to push up on the analog stick, BeamNG would register it as the up arrow key being pressed. Same with down, left and right. the game picked up the controller as "Xbox controller 1" which is normal, but none of the button presses or movement of the analog stick/trackpads come from "Xbox controller 1"
